This privacy policy explains what information Backpacker Directory (backpackerdirectory.com) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Backpacker Directory is run by Tony as part of Online Business Awareness. If you have any question about this policy, contact us at onlinebusinessawareness@gmail.com.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
When you sign up for updates, submit a business listing, post an event or apply to become an agent, we collect the details you enter in the form — such as your name, email address, business details or event information. Approved listings and events are shown publicly on the site. We only use these details for the purpose you sent them for (for example, replying to you or reviewing a listing). We never sell your personal information.
Anonymous usage statistics
We use our own small, cookie-free statistics script to understand which pages and buttons are useful. It records things like the page visited, the button clicked, the referring website, the country (from your browser's language and time zone), device type and how far you scrolled. It does not use cookies and does not store your name, email or IP address. A random session number is kept in your browser's session storage and a date in local storage so we can count unique daily visits.
Information stored on your device
Some features (for example saved progress, preferences or awards) are stored only in your own browser using local storage. This information stays on your device and you can clear it at any time from your browser settings.
2. Advertising and cookies (Google AdSense)
This website uses Google AdSense to show advertisements, which helps keep the site free.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- To learn more about how Google uses data when you use partner sites, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time.
3. Embedded content from other websites
Some pages include embedded content such as YouTube videos. Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you visited the other website, and that website may collect data about you and use cookies under its own privacy policy. Links to other sites (for example Udemy, Amazon or YouTube) are covered by those sites' own policies.
4. Affiliate links
Some links may be affiliate or referral links. If you buy something through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend.
5. How long we keep information
Anonymous statistics are kept in detail for up to 90 days and then only as daily totals. Messages and submissions are kept for as long as needed to deal with them. You can ask us to delete anything you sent at any time.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the UK GDPR, EU GDPR or California law) you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or object to how it is used. Email onlinebusinessawareness@gmail.com and we will reply within 30 days.
7. Children
This website is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Ads on this site are not personalised based on children's data. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
