Turn Your Travels Into Income

You already talk to backpackers, hang out in hostels, and know which spots are actually worth it. Backpacker Directory pays you for sharing that — no experience needed, no desk, no boss. We'll train you from zero.

Why Join

Why A Backpacker Would Work With Us

This isn't a call centre job. It's a way to get paid for the conversations and connections you're already having on the road.

Earn From The Road

Get paid for connecting travelers with businesses you already trust — cafes, hostels, tours, shops. No fixed hours, no office, no boss.

Zero Experience? Good.

We built this for people who've never done anything like it before. If you're willing to give it a go, we'll show you exactly how, step by step.

Be Part Of Something Growing

You're not just an agent — you're one of the first. Help build a community that makes independent travel easier for everyone who comes after you.

Keep Doing What You Love

Travel, explore, meet people — that's the job. The income is what happens while you're doing what you'd be doing anyway.

A Day On This Job

What A Day Could Look Like

There's no clock-in, no shift pattern, no manager watching. Here's the kind of day this job can actually look like — and why what you get out of it is mostly up to you.

Morning. Coffee on a hostel rooftop, replying to a couple of business owners who said yes to being listed this week. Maybe a short walk into town, stopping to chat with a tour operator who's been wanting more backpacker bookings — ten minutes later, they're signed up.

Afternoon. However you want it. Exploring, working from a beach chair, diving into whatever brought you here in the first place — or reaching out to a couple more places on your list, if you're in the mood.

Evening. A message from another agent you know, who just landed a hostel and wants to compare notes. Maybe you start talking about teaming up.

That's the shape of it — but it's not a script. Some days this is fifteen minutes between sightseeing. Other days it's a few real conversations, or bringing a friend on board and building a small team of your own. The job scales with the effort you put in — treat it casually and it stays casual; treat it like something worth building, and it grows with you.

Starter Guide

Your Agent Starter Guide

Everything below goes into your downloadable Starter Pack — keep it on your phone and use it any time you're not sure what to say or do.

What To Say
Keep it simple, honest, and short. You're not selling anything — you're introducing something useful.
"Hey, I'm part of Backpacker Directory — we connect travelers with places like yours that are actually worth recommending. Would you be open to being featured? Takes two minutes and costs nothing to find out more."
Adjust it to sound like you — the goal is a real conversation, not a script read word for word.
Choosing The Right Businesses
Not every business is a fit. Look for ones you'd genuinely recommend to a friend:
  • Places that already get backpacker or traveler customers, or clearly want more
  • Good reviews and a decent reputation locally
  • A vibe that fits independent travelers — friendly, easy to find, fair prices
  • Somewhere you'd actually go yourself
If you wouldn't recommend it to another traveler, don't refer it.
How To Be Professional
  • Be upfront about who you are and what Backpacker Directory is
  • Don't oversell or promise things you're not sure about
  • Respect the business owner's time — keep the first chat short
  • Follow up politely once, not repeatedly
  • Say thank you, whatever the answer is
Good Questions To Ask
  • "Do you get many backpacker or independent traveler customers already?"
  • "Would more traveler foot traffic be useful for your business?"
  • "Is there a best time to reach you if you want to hear more?"
  • "Is there anything about your business travelers should know that isn't obvious?"
What Not To Do
  • Don't pressure anyone — a "no" is a normal answer, move on
  • Don't misrepresent Backpacker Directory or guarantee results
  • Don't spam the same business or person more than once
  • Don't share false information to close a conversation faster
  • Don't take payment or personal details from a business directly — that's handled through us
